DESIGNING EXPERIENCES AROUND SUSTAINABLE FUTURES FOR FINLAND
As part of its efforts to roll out its Positive Sustainable Lifestlye Tool across Europe, SITRA, the Innovation Fund of the Finnish Government, challenged itself to explore ideas of and meanings behind Sustainable Futures in Finland and design experiences that would engage the citizenry around these visions. To enrich the exercise, they engaged Kaospilot Experience Design to facilitate the Futures Design process. Through her work with KindMind Experience Design, Marite co-designed and co-facilitated the process.
the challenge
Futures-oriented modules and prompts were used as futures frames to generate ideas that would engage citizen participation and sustainable behavior change around climate actions. One of these included seeking wisdom from the ancient and old, through Indigenous Thinking concepts that connect the past to the present and future wellbeing of people and place, imbuing experiences with generational consciousness and a sense of stewardship.
the work
the outcomes
Four various experience designs developed around four different visions of Sustainable Futures of various citizen and community personas. These designs included a “Dinner of Hope” for the Youth, a Vision of Desired Futures workshop for citizens, an Experiential Futures prototype and a community-driven digital support group to enable sustainable behavior goals.
